Mountain race "Strafexpedition" on the Asiago Plateau - Sunday 1 September 2019
On Sunday, September 1, 2019, with departure and arrival in the center of Asiago, the 6th edition of the Strafexpedition will take place, a mountain race on three routes of 20, 35 and 50 km organized by the Sports 7Commons.
The route will reach, in its longest variant (50km), a positive difference of more than 2200 meters and will lead the athletes to travel to the most significant places in the history of the GreatWar, until the arrival in the central AsiagoSquare.
THE "VERA" STRAFEXPEDITION
Between May and June 1916 in the Vicentine highlands the Austro-Hungarian and Italian army faced off in the largest mountain battle everfought, officially known with the Battle of theHighlands. The Italians called it Strafexpedition,from the German punitiveexpedition. At the end of the battle the losses between the two armies were more than 230 thousandmen.
For more than three years the Vicentine highlands were the scene of bloodybattles, and today the remains of that conflict are visible everywhere. Trails, stakeouts,principals and barracks are some of the testimonies left by the Great War on the Asiago Plateau 7Municipalities.
