GALILEO'S TELESCOPE-ASIAGO OBSERVATORY
TheAsiago Observatory was established in 1942 with theinauguration of Galileo's telescope.
For the share, the few lights then present, the transparency of the atmosphere and the high percentage of clear nights, was chosen the Asiago plateau to accommodate what was then the largest telescope in Europe, with its primary mirror 122 cm diameter.
In a very short time theAsiago Observatory internationally distinguished himself especially to the study of Stellar variability phenomena. Since 1992 the telescope was equipped with a CCD.
In the following years were designed and manufactured at the same venue two telescopes of type Schmidt, to scan large areas of sky and see stars, supernovas, Star flares and generally explosive variables.
In the 1970s it was realized the telescope Copernicus from 182 cm at cima Ekar, still the largest optical instrument on Italian soil.
In 1999, following the transfer to Ekar 67/92 Schmidt, the dome in the locality of Pennar was transformed into a media room, for educational activities and for the public.
