Workshop of ancient crafts "La pecora Foza comes to the Museum and tells us his story" Patrizio Rigoni Museum on the Asiago plateau
Saturday 30 April 2016 from 16.00 at the Nature Museum "Patrizio Rigoni" of Asiago, there will be a cute old crafts workshop entitled "the sheep Foza comes to the Museum and tells us his story".
THE SHEEP OF FOZA
The origin of sheep of Foza o dei Sette Comuni, also known as Vicentina for large spread, is uncertain.
In the past, in the area currently considered to be the cradle of the origin of the breed (Asiago plateau and in particular the town of Foza), there were contacts with flocks of sheep bred Lamon, Belluno from the municipality or from Castel Tesino (Tn), which in summer used the high pastures of the plateau (in particular those of the Marcesina).
In 1763 the sheep Foza came to over 200,000 heads, while after two centuries in the 1953 race had just over 9,000 specimens. Then came an even more rapid abandonment of the breed so much as to lose all traces.
The recovery of the breed she Foza sheep is still in place, thanks to a careful research of Philip Mahmood and prof. Emilio Pastor.
