DESTINATION: Calà del Sasso - Sasso di Asiago - Asiago Plateau and the Seven Municipalities (VI)

"As long as purgatory, as dark as a storm, the staircase that leads you to the grand old man of the mountain, up there on the Asiago Plateau.  Four thousand, four hundred and forty-four steps, steep as beasts, already tiring to name them. They start from Val Brenta, under grim peaks, at the point where the valley - for those coming from Bassano - seems to split in two, at the height of a village called Valstagna, with its wall of old houses flush with the embankment. The steep slope takes the left crack and burns 810 meters of elevation gain in a flash. It is called "Calà del Sasso", and it is one of the most fantastic works in the Alps."  Paolo Rumiz

The route begins at a typical mountain village (Sasso di Asiago) which we will leave behind to descend along a path that crosses beech and hornbeam woods, a small scree and leads us towards Valstagna.

Uphill we will face the 4444 stone steps, already traveled who knows how many times by goods, people and animals... a unique HISTORICAL HERITAGE!

Immersed in the bright green of the beech leaves, we will travel along this ancient road that connects the Brenta Valley with the Asiago Plateau Seven Municipalities, telling the traditions and culture of local commerce over the centuries.

📈DIFFICULTY: we assign a difficulty 4 on a scale from 1 (very easy) to 5 (challenging)

The route is circular and does not present any particular technical difficulties, but requires a minimum of physical preparation and familiarity with excursions in a mountain environment. The descent will develop between a few short stretches of paved road, dirt roads and mountain paths, while you will climb along the ancient staircase of Calà del Sasso. 

The uphill elevation gain is less than 550 m, there is only one short exposed stretch.

🎒TO BRING WITH YOU: waterproof mountain boots, layered clothing suitable for the mountain climate, waterproof jacket, backpack with water for the duration of the excursion or hot tea, a small snack such as dried fruit, hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, any towel to sit on, PACKED LUNCH.

🫰COST: €25 for the guided excursion, €10 for children under 15 and season ticket holders. 

Participants will be offered a taste of local products.
