SUPERNOVAE and the CHEMISTRY of the universe: astronomy conference with Lina Tomasella water museum on 2 August
Friday, August 2 at the water Museum of Asiago to 21.00 hours you will give a lecture on astronomy with dott.ssa Lina Tomasella Asiago Observatory. The theme will be "supernovae and the chemistry of the universe"
SUPERNOVAE
A supernova is a stellar explosion more energetic than a nova. The supernovae are extremely luminous and cause a radiation which can for short periods exceed that of an entire Galaxy.
During a period that can range from a few weeks to a few months a supernova emit as much energy as it is expected to issue the Sun during its entire existence.
The explosion expels much or all of the material that makes up the star at speeds that can reach 30000 km/s (10% of the speed of light), producing a shock wave that spreads in the interstellar medium. This translates into a gas bubble in the expansion that is called a supernova remnant.
