PLAYING FOR CHANGE
Playing for Change is a movement created to inspire and connect the world through music. The idea for this project came from the belief that music has the power to break down barriers and overcome the distances between people.
Playing for Change began in 2002 as a shared vision among the co-founders, Mark Johnson and Whitney Kroenke, seeking inspiration in the streets of America with a mobile studio recording and cameras.
The founder, Director and Grammy winner, Mark Johnson was looking for musicians for his film "Peace Through Music" when it is enchanted by a performance of the classic song "Stand by Me" performed by the legendary street singer Roger Ridley Santa Monica. Mark picks up the exhibition and is heading towards other streets, New Orleans meets the beloved musician Grandpa Elliott, which blends in perfectly with the soul of Ridley and so proceeds: using mobile technology and traveling the world films and records well more than 100 musicians, largely outdoors, parks, squares, balconies of houses, streets ... Each performance creates a new mix where artists perform together, although there are hundreds and thousands of kilometres away
From this experience is then born the idea to combine many of the greatest musicians met while traveling and thus create the Playing For Change Band. These musicians come from many different countries and cultures, but through music speak the same language. The PFC band is now on tour, to spreading a message of love and hope for the worldwide audience.
