Mousterian is a name given by archaeologists to a period in which they were used predominantly Flint tools, associated primarily with Homo neanderthalensis and dating to the Middle Paleolithic, the Middle Paleolithic. It takes its name from the site of Le Moustier, a rock shelter in the Dordogne region. The term was introduced by g. de there Bringig in 1872.

Similar Flint tools have been found throughout Europe which was not affected by glaciation, as well as in the Middle East and North Africa. And distinctive Flint scrapers, tips make up the bulk of the industry.

Musteriani tools were produced by Neanderthals and date from 300,000-30,000 years ago. Northern Africa and the Near East were also produced by anatomically modern humans. In the Levant, for example, the works of Neanderthals are indistinguishable from those produced by humans.

Generally, the stones were processed to produce a base suitable for more possible tools (core), which was then finished removing shards of flint Levallois technique or another equivalent technique.

The study of traces of wear and the microscopic observation indicate that these stones could be attached to a wooden handle and that men of the Mousterian period worked, in addition to stone, wood and skins and also using sometimes their gear for cut vegetable materials.
