The traditional historic torchlight procession from Valstagna to Sasso di Asiago is back along the Calà del Sasso

August on the Plateau is a time of traditions. On Saturday, August 8, 2020,in fact, the historic and traditional Torchlight procession along the Calà del Sasso will be held: the ancient staircase that connects Sasso di Asiago to Valstagna,consisting of 4444 steps,will light up for a night to the memory of a legendary love.
After walking the Calà del Sasso,from Valstagna to the Sasso hamlet of Asiago,the evening will continue with music and animations,for young and old.
This year the City Council decided to cancel the fireworks display for safety reasons related to the Covid 19 health emergency.
The fireworks will therefore not be held.

THE LEGEND
It is said in Valbrenta that in 1638, Loretta and Nicolò, inhabitants of Sasso of Asiago and engaged in marriage odor, are struck by misfortune: Loretta, expecting a son, became seriously ill and her lover, determined to save her, set to leave Padua in search of a miraculous ointment.
He descends the Calà del Sasso and arrives in Valstagna rents a horse.
Although he travels with a great career the time flows fast and with the arrival of the night Nicolò is not yet back.
The inhabitants of Sasso, worried, then decide to go down with torches to meet the young man. Along the Calà they spot other torches going up: it is Nicolò escorted by the men of Valstagna.
The young lover manages to reach his beloved Loretta and give her the ointment, which miraculously heals her. The two boyfriends then marry, with the participation of the inhabitants of Sasso and Valstagna.
Hence the popular belief that if two boyfriends walk the Calà hand in hand they will love each other forever.
