Inauguration restoration Scaligero castle, Enego, Wednesday April 25, 2012

Wednesday, April 25, 2012, in Piazza San Marco Enego, to be held the 'inauguration of the restoration of the Castle with the visit of the walls and the main tower at high altitude.

This opportunity will be possible, for the first time, after centuries of history from the construction of the castle in 1316.

At the end of the opening there will be a reception for all participants. On this occasion there will be many local historians and artists who will present the works on display about the local history and land.

The event will begin at ' hours 11:30 in Piazza San Marco.

History of the Castle of Enego

The castle of Enego, home of Captain, was a large rectangular structure (about forty feet by twenty), with edges of four large square towers.

The fortified structure, dating from the mid-14th century, it was still fully efficient in the 16th century (housed the baggage and ammunition for the Venetian forces stationed here during the war of Cambrai), while it is already ruined in the mid-18th century.

Count Caldogno describes in a report dated 1598, saying that "this village is somehow covered everything from a castle made by Scaliger (…), which is four towers joined to one another by continuous curtain wall with ditch and drawbridge".

The structure, after centuries of neglect, preserve, still intact, one of the four towers, while the rest of the complex is conserved in plant with high walls between four and eight feet.

The structures of the Castle, preserved at the side of the town square, require urgent interventions preservation today and upgrade work that qualify and contextualizes the survivors, in a project of cultural and tourist recovery of important medieval work.

The municipal administration of Enego, owner of the well, he is determined to work in this direction, by promoting a recovery project that, according to a scale of priorities that goes by the interventions of sum to the restoration to the attainment of the public accessibility of the tower and the realization of public trails access, allows the complete perimeter of use (currently only visible from the square).

The intervention, which is urgently needed for the preservation of the only existing Castle of Seven Municipalities plateau is of high importance, the tourist and cultural revival of the area.
