BOOK "ORTIGARA - THE FRONT IN THE SKY"

The First World War was the first conflict that took place in a new dimension, the air. The Air Force saw rapid development that transformed it from a mere observation tool to a real instrument of offense to the ground troops. Few people know that the Ortigara, infamous for the bloody battles that took place on its slopes, was also the scene of the most important air battle of the Great War on the Italian front, with an aircraft deployment equalled only during the Second World War. The author, starting from an analysis of the evolution of the Italian and Austro-Hungarian Air Force during 1917, both from a technical point of view and of use, delves into in detail the actions of June 1917, from the airfields to the skies of Ortigara, not neglecting the events of the pilots, among them Francesco Baracca, who were also protagonists.
