On Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 5:00 p.m., at the Council Chamber of Gallio, the interesting conference entitled "Medicine & Mountain: an underestimated combination" will be held, an informative event designed to deepen the complex relationship between health and the mountain environment.
The mountains, in fact, can be a source of great physical and mental well-being, but if frequented without awareness, they can also pose health risks, with the onset of acute diseases or the worsening of chronic conditions. Correct information is therefore essential to maximize benefits and minimize dangers.
During the conference, experts from the medical and academic sectors will speak, who will offer practical and scientific insights useful to all those who live or regularly frequent the mountain environment:
- Prof. Lorenzo Simonato, former full professor at the University of Padua (UNIPD), will talk about the longitudinal study "Seven Municipalities" and the importance of epidemiology in mountain territories.
- Dr. Claudia Dallari, anesthesiologist and resuscitator, specialized in mountain medicine (UNIPD) and with a master's degree in Mountain Medicine and Emergency (University of Insubria), will offer advice on the use of drugs at altitude.
- Dr. Raffaele Pezzani, adjunct professor at UNIPD and general practitioner, will illustrate the use of plant active ingredients (phytotherapy) in hiking.
- Dr. Francesco Trevisan, general practitioner, also specialized in mountain medicine (UNIPD), will address the topic of physical exercise at altitude and the management of arterial hypertension in hikers.
- Dr. Alberto Fanni, territorial emergency physician and specialized in mountain medicine (UNIPD), will share his experience of health cooperation in the Ecuadorian Andes, delving into chronic altitude sickness.
The meeting will be moderated by Dr. Annarita Rigoni, a retired general practitioner.
The conference is open to all and is a precious opportunity for those who want to experience the mountains with greater awareness and safety.
