MONTE ORTIGARA: In the footsteps of our Fathers, 12 July 2020

Sunday 12/7/2020 at 08:30
Guided excursions
Monte Ortigara - Guide Altopiano

Guided excursion with Filippo Menegatti of the ALTOPIANO GUIDE - "Mount Ortigara, in the footsteps of our Fathers" - Mountain Professionals

MOUNT ORTIGARA EXCURSION: IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF OUR FATHERS

The last days of this hell, the 25th of June! There's only a few minutes left. From the altitude of 2105 an Italian machine gun begins fire. And that's when the terrifying bombardment that precedes the decisive attack begins.
The fate of hundreds of men lies in the hands of God and modern weapons of destruction. He's taking off operation Wildbach!!!! The Austro-Hungarians go on the assault of the very contested summit of Ortigara, taken by our Alpines, with very serious losses and suffering, just a few days before. Mount Ortigara and the entire adjacent area do not need to say much more, you have to go there, walk it like on pilgrimage, observe the battlefield with conscious eyes and breathe the silences, today precious if you know the history of these mountains.

WHO WE ARE - PLATEAU GUIDES
We "Highland Guides" are the first group of professional guides of the Plateau. We are local guides operating on the territory of the Plateau of the Seven Municipalities since 2008. The membership of the place by the members of the group ensures an intimate knowledge of the proposed goals and a deeply respectful approach to the environment and its history. Our passions for nature, history and sport have led us to choose a life path based on the study of the environment and local history. Graduates in scientific, tourist and sports subjects such as Forestry and Environmental Sciences, Natural Sciences and Motor Sciences we have also specialized in the historical field with courses recognized by the Province of Vicenza.  In order to be able to practice professionally, we are regularly enrolled in the professional registers of Environmental Naturalistic Guide (L.R. 33 of 2002 of Veneto), or Of Accompanying media Montagna (L.R. 23 July 2013, n.18).

READING THE DEGREE OF DIFFICULTY:
FACILE: The route takes place on forest roads, dirt roads or easy mulees always well indicated and without orientation problems in cases of fog or bad weather. The elevations are contained within 250-300 meters and the length of the route is within three hours. These are a bit of long walks that require a hiking sports shoe, not necessarily the pedula or boot.

FACILE/MEDIO: The route takes place on forest roads, dirt roads or easy mulees always well indicated. The elevations are contained within 250-300 meters and the length of the route is within 3 - 5 ORE. These are a bit of long walks that require a hiking sports shoe or boot.

AVERAGE: The route definitely exceeds three hours, it is more complex, it takes place on a trail with some challenging climbs or descent but can be overcome without the support of mountaineering equipment. The terrain can be disconnected or lack of signals. The maximum difference in altitude, however, remains within the 500 meters.

MEDIO/IMPEGNATIVE: The route definitely exceeds 5 hours, it is complex for the difference in altitude that can exceed 500 meters or for the length of walking up to 6 hours, it takes place on a trail with some challenging ascent or descent but can be overcome without the support of mountaineering equipment. The terrain can be disconnected or lack of signals.

IMPEGNATIVO: These itineraries require a lot of experience, training and physical strength from those who travel them. it is necessary to know how to move expertly even in dangerous terrain: gravels, steep slopes or steep stretches, thick scrub, high and unreferenced, passages in rock, absence of springs. The difficulty of the terrain and the distance from the points of support require total autonomy. Where indicated there may be a need to bring to the tow bivouac material such as the tent, bivouac bag, stove, food, requires training, energy and strong motivation.
