Meeting with Giovanni Caprara and Cesare Barbieri at teatro Eliseo, on the Asiago plateau

Saturday 23 July 2016 at 20.30 the Teatro Eliseo di Asiago will host an interesting cultural evening entitled "News from Earth- Asiago Observatory to probe Schiaparelli traveling to Mars, passing through three decades of comets", in which Giovanni Caprara, writer and columnist for the Corriere della Sera, and Cesare Barbieri, astronomer and Professor Emeritus at theUniversity of Padua takes you fromAsiago Observatory to Schiaparelli form traveling to Mars, passing through three decades of comets.

Echoing the words of Giovanni Caprara in a recent article about Italian Observers (Corriere della Sera, Where .16/02/2016) Asiago Observatory is a place "where you can venture out to enjoy the amazing experience of using a telescope and listen to by the protagonists the latest discoveries about the cosmos. The experience of seeing up close the telescopes to observe the sky through their lenses and mirrors, listen to astronomers that tell the stories of the stars who are studying, you can at all. "

During the evening you will reach various destinations, in recent months the destination of important missions. It is called Jupiter, studied the Juno spacecraft (NASA/ASI), which came with success in the orbit of the giant planet in early July. And will also be discussed by Mars, destination of the European mission Exomars, contributed by researchers and padovani, and domestic industries. The ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter probe, called arrival (TGO) is slated for mid-October. TGO will circularly orbit around Mars at an altitude of 400 km and just arrived in orbit expected pop out to the surface a demonstrative landers, Italian astronomer Schiaparelli called in honour of famous for his studies of Martian canals.

From Mars will pass at comets, two in particular, that of Halley and 67 p/Churyumov-Gerasimenko.
In March 1986 the European Giotto probe comets flying over Halley's Comet and opened the way to today's Rosetta, which is still underway but that will end on 30 September with a second spectacular landing on the comet 67/P Churyumov-Gerasimenko, after that in November 2014 module Philae. Two incumbents in space science physics of comets, representing thirty years of which we will hear the story by one of the protagonists, Prof. Cesare Barbieri.

The comets will lead eventually to their place of origin, that band of distantissimi bodies of which Pluto is the founder. The NASA spacecraft New Horizon has reached from this distant planet, revealing surprising to say the least and certainly unexpected details.Asiago osservatorio pennar dalle ave

These and other astronomical stories will be discussed Saturday at Asiago, territory that hosts the largest optical telescopes on the ground as part of the ItalianAstronomical Observatory of Padova (INAF-Italian Institute for Astrophysics) and the Department of physics and astronomy at the University of Padua. With telescopes to Pennar and Cima Ekar are accomplished research on variable stars, supernovae, chasing comets and asteroids, it is engaged in the search for exoplanets, with intensive observational instruments designs and highly advanced technology.

2016 EXOMARS

Exomars is a mission of robotic exploration of Mars, developed by theEuropean Space Agency (ESA) and theRussian Federal Space Agency (Roskosmos). It provides for the launch of an orbiter and an entry, descent and landing demonstrator in 2016, and a rover in 2020.

The entry, descent and landing demo module that will fly in 2016 ExoMars mission was called "Schiaparelli" in honour of the Italian astronomer Giovanni Schiaparelli, who famously made a map of features on the surface of the red planet in the 19th century.
