BOOK "THECHILDREN OF SWAVI""
Protected by the walls of a house hidden by the climber, Edna waits for a sign. He has always dreamed of the day when he can keep his word. The only one with her company is Emil, a big blue-winged parrot. She never needed anything else. Until a news story forces her out of the shadows and set out on her journey. The time has come to live up to a long-ignored promise. A promise that ties his fate to that of his friend Jacob, who he has not seen since they were children. Since thousands of peers, they were forced to embark on a terrible journey on foot through the mountains to reach the farms of Upper Sweden and be sold in cattle markets. Fleeing poverty, they believed they found green lawns and planks, and instead had nothing but hard work and a squat of bread. They called them "children of Sweden." In that unfortunate present, Edna discovered a light: Jacob. Their friendship is alive in his heart, as well as the ghosts he never talked about. But now that he's found Jacob, it's time to pay off his debt and tell his childhood friend the only truth that can save them. To do so, Edna has to go back to where it all started to see if it's possible to forgive herself and start again. Along ancient Roman roads and pilgrim trails, each step will lead Edna to rediscover the surprise of life, but at the same time bring her closer to a menacing past. Because even the most beautiful fairy tale hides a gloomy, insidious truth. The Children of Svevia is an unforgettable novel. For the ability to read the human soul with depth and empathy. For the courage to shed light on a little-known chapter in Italian history, that of children who, for three centuries and until the Second World War, were sold by families to work on farms in Upper Sweden. For the protagonist, Edna, a vivid and engaging character. A story that is a dive into a world where nature says more than words and in a forgotten past that asked to be told.
