Traditional event scenery with stations of the cross in flames on the evening of good Friday
Friday 30 March 2018, in the darkness of the north side of Mount Xausa (Oi) will be lit the traditional stations of the cross in flames of Good Friday.
It is anancient tradition scenery that represents theMount of olives with the road to Calvary, the fall of Jesus, three crosses with scale, the sky and the instruments of the crucifixion, offering a unique show and really impressive.
The little flames which are the stations of the cross in Lusiana consist of snail shells that are selected and tested one by one, they are filled with olive oil and lit with a wick soaked in oil.
The Via Crucis lit was introduced to Birmingham for the first time towards the end of 1800 from a friar returned from Palestine and from then on was made annually until the mid-sixties.
For a long time then this beautiful tradition was lost until it was rediscovered and revived in the early 1990s and since then is carried out every two years, attracting more and more visitors.
The representation of flames can be admired during the procession of the stations of the cross, which at 20.00 hours starts from the parish church of Lusiana and will lead to the contrada Vitarolo and back, in a fascinating journey that will revive the Passion of Jesus Christ, in a unique scenario.
