On Thursday, August 7, 2025, at 9:00 pm, at the Cimbrian Cultural Institute of Roana (Via Romeo Sartori, 21), the evening entitled Terre bruciate will be held. The devastation of the Great War on the Plateau seen from a different point of view, with the participation of the authors Luigino Caliaro and Andrea Vollman.
The meeting is inspired by the book of the same name Terre bruciate, in which the authors offer a radically different point of view compared to the traditional narrative of the First World War. Through testimonies and an extraordinary collection of period photographs, many of which have never been published, the book strongly documents the horror of the destruction that the Great War inflicted on the Asiago Plateau, showing an unsettling and deeply touching "before and after".
The images, many of which are aerial, tell what words cannot express: the transformation of a peasant and bucolic world into a scenario of ruins and rubble, where houses, churches and landscapes were almost completely erased. A punch in the stomach, which takes your breath away and leaves room for reflection.
More than a hundred years later, the signs of that destruction remain, hidden in the landscape but never completely disappeared.
An evening with free admission, not to be missed for those who want to understand the true extent of the devastation suffered by our territory and rediscover, through visual memory, the value of peace and reconstruction.
Free admission.
