ZELIDE'S CRIGNO
Once upon a time, on the top of a high mountain, there was a sapling. Little Beech was sad and lonely and longed for a different life, full of adventures and new things to discover. He wanted to be like Wind: to travel from one end of the world to the other and never get bored. This is the story of how Beech became, as a grown-up, the wisest tree in the whole clearing, and perhaps of the whole world, without ever moving its roots; and how Friendship and Love were the sweet nourishment of its wisdom, more important than water itself, more intense than the warmth of the sun.
