The Asiago Astrophysical Observatory, INAF proposes the observation of Comet C/2012 K1 and not only: also of Mars, Saturn and the Moon

Saturday 7 June 2014 to 21.00 hours at theAsiago Astrophysical Observatory will be able to observe the Comet C/2012 K1, Mars, Saturn and the Moon. In the evening you can also make a visit to the telescope Galileo.

Planned observation to Asiago was scheduled right now, in June, because on these dates the Comet is still high in the sky at sunset. At the beginning of July will be very low on the horizon and from September will no longer be visible in our hemisphere. Always a certain caution in providing predictions since comets are objects in the making.

The comments will be possible only with clear skies and then, in case of bad weather, you can attend a Conference to learn everything about comets held by an astronomer ofINAF di Asiago!

The Comet C/2012 K1

Discovered on May 19, 2012 when he was at 8.7 AU from the Sun with the Pan-STARRS telescope (Panoramic Survey Telescope & Rapid Response) of Haleakala in Hawaii, the Comet C/2012 K1 Panstarrs, glowed of 19.7 magnitude.

It is a non-periodic comet, which then will pass the most not from these parts, from the particular dynamics: in fact showed signs of slowing down in its tendency to acquire brightness, and then resume the increase.

Do not exclude a fragmentation but also because it has the same characteristics as the other 11 comets, including the C/2012 S1 ISON, all slaughtered in their approach to the Sun. According to scholars, on this line, it is reasonable to expect that even C/2012 K1 PANSTARRS is destined to disintegrate with a probability of 20%.

His next perihelion is scheduled for August 27, 2014 when it will reach a distance of 1.05 AU ( kilometers) from the Sun, while the perigee, its closest approach point to Earth is scheduled for October 31, 2014. Then it will be visible to the naked eye as a faint star of magnitude of about 6.2.
