Commemorative stamp issue on the occasion of the centenary of the Roana Bridge

For the 100 YEARS OF THE BRIDGE OF ROANA, also on the recommendation of Vittorio Sgarbi, the issue of a commemorative stamp was requested

On the occasion of the centenary of the inauguration of the Roana Bridge in 1924 to be held next year, the Mayor of Roana avv. Elisabetta Magnabosco and the President of the Cimbro Institute of Roana dr. Giancarlo Bortoli to ask the Minister of Economic Development to issue a commemorative stamp. The Circolo Filatelico 7 Comuni and the Institute of History of Vicenza also supported the request.

The Roana Bridge, initially erected in 1906 after the famous revolt of the women of Roana and the famous Turkish Togna, was mined in 1916 by the Italian army and rebuilt in 1924. Inaugurated with a grandiose ceremony, it characterizes the plateau skyline and is considered a cultural asset of exceptional interest, protected by the competent Superintendence.

The Mayor of Roana, in recalling the vibilistic importanceof the work and the project in the pipeline for a new axis on the Valdassa, has already involved the Province so that the bridge is restored and repainted in pink and white, original colors. He also brought Vittorio Sgarbi to the site, who particularly appreciated the artistic value of the bridge, obtaining his support for enhancement initiatives.

The Ponte di Roana is also for the resident population a reference of identity belonging to their land, traditions and numerous ethnic and social peculiarities, highlighted in the historical report edited by the Cimbra Institute of Culture.

For all these considerations, the Mayor of Roana Avv. Magnabosco, is promoting the establishment of a Committee for the planning of events related to the history of the Bridge.

For this special initiative were involved the Veneto Region, the Province of Vicenza, the Mayor of Asiago, the President of the Mountain Union, the Culture Office of the Municipality of Roana in the person of Andrea Valente and of course the Institute of Cimbrian Culture of Roana, the Philatelic Circle 7 Municipalities and the Institute of History of Vicenza.

During the aforementioned visit to the Bridge, the Hon. Vittorio Sgarbi welcomed with great pleasure the request of the mayor of Roana to be part of the Committee for the Centenary of the Roanese Structure.

A series of meetings between the members will therefore begin shortly for the necessary formalities which will be followed by a dense planning activity for the organization of this historical celebration awaited by the whole plateau. The meetings will be held shortly at the municipal house of Roana in the council room.
