Faq, the Government: when it is possible to leave your municipality to ski or practice other sports activities

The Government and the Veneto Region clarify when you can go to the mountains in your region in an orange area to do cross-country skiing, ski mountaineering - Also allowed the overnight stay functional to sports activity

Finally, following the decree law of 14 January 2021, n. 2,the Government has clarified the possibility in the orange zone to go to a municipality other than its own to practice individual sports activities.

According to the updated answers to the FAQ, i.e. the frequently asked questions, on the measures taken by the Government it is possible to move from its municipality if the sports activity is not available there.

Consequently, if you want to practice cross-country skiing or ski mountaineering,but you live on the plain, or in any case in your municipality there are no equipment or conditions to   practice this sport, you can reach theAsiago Plateau to ski in one of the open cross-country centers, as long as you are in the Veneto Region.

It is not possible to leave your municipality to take a simple walk in themountains, since the walk is a perfectly viable motor activity even in your own municipality.

Below is what is written on the Government's website.

Question: is it possible to go to another municipality for the sole purpose of doing sports there? Alternatively, is it possible to cross municipal borders while practicing sports activity (for example running or crossing a mountain), to conclude it anyway within your municipality?

Answer: it is possible to go to another municipality, from 5.00 to 22.00, to do sports activity only if it is not available in its municipality (for example, in case there are no tennis courts), as long as it is in the same region or autonomous province. In addition, it is possible, in carrying out a sporting activity that involves a movement (for example the race or the bicycle), to enter another municipality, provided that this movement remains functional only to the sports activity itself and the final destination coincides with the municipality of departure.  It should also be noted that, according to the Dpcm, for municipalities with a population of no more than 5,000 inhabitants, the surrounding territorial area is treated as the municipal territory, up to a distance of 30 km from its borders. Please note that, during the performance of the sports activity, it is always necessary to maintain the distance of at least 2 meters from other people.

The Veneto Region has also provided clarifications in line with those of the Government, adding another important clarification: it is also possible to stay overnight in the locality where you have chosen to go to carry out individual sports activities that cannot be carried out in your municipality. In fact, the Veneto Region writes: "overnight accommodation on site is possible because the hotel activity is open and the overnight stay is functional to the ski practice".

At the same time, however, the Region specifies that"you cannot instead move to the non-common hotel for tourism or do motor activities that can take place in the municipality of residence".

Even if neither the Government nor the Veneto Region express themselves on this matter, it is considered, as a precautionary measure, that the move should be made not only within the Region, but also reaching the nearest place wheresatisfaction of one's need is possible, as per the interpretative circular to the prefects of November 7th.
