The rural and marginal areas of Vicenza at the center of the territorial development strategy

Press release of 12 September 2022 - LAG Montagna Vicentina

Thursday, September 15, 2022 will be held the "Mountain Table", the first working table that will kick off a series of design meetings for the area of the LAG (Local Action Group) Montagna Vicentina, the programming tool for rural areas established by the European Union to enhance the competitiveness of the most disadvantaged areas. At the headquarters of the province of Vicenza, in Contrà Gazzolle 1, representatives of the Chamber of Commerce, of the Category Associations (ASCOM, COLDIRETTI, CONFARTIGIANATO), as well as the heads of the Province of Vicenza and the GAL Montagna Vicentina, will meet. The entire activity of the working tables is carried out thanks to a contribution provided by the Chamber of Commerce of Vicenza.

The first novelty concerns the involvement of the four IPAs (Area Programmatic Agreements) present in the territory affected by the LAG, namely IPA Alto Vicentino, IPA Altopiano 7 Comuni, IPA Ovest Vicentino, IPA Pedemontana del Brenta), which will be represented at the working tables.
LAGs and IPAs are signing a memorandum of understanding aimed at sharing the strategic lines for rural areas, coordinating activities and interventions, and thus giving life to a new governance model that seeks common solutions, through the mobilization of a plurality of local subjects and actors interested in cooperating for the development of their territory.

The EU indicates depopulation as a priority critical issue of rural areas (Objective 8 CAP); the strategy of the Montagna Vicentina LAG will be aimed at countering this phenomenon, limiting or even reversing its effects that have a strong impact on rural areas. For Vicenza, this objective is particularly important, given that rural areas cover 46% of its territory.

With the collection of the needs of the territory, the consultation phase opens, according to the way the LAGs operate, which starts from listening to the needs expressed by the subjects present in the territory, in the social and economic field. The recipients of the project are the same protagonists of the development of the territory: associations, companies, local authorities have the task of identifying together the priorities of their area, defining objectives and actions, creating networks, territorial communities and specific projects.

From 15 September until the end of November, the public and private entities that adhere to the LAG will meet to define the design for the rural areas of the province of Vicenza, for the period 2023-2027, based on the needs expressed by the territory and the socio-economic actors operating there. The large area of the 39 municipalities that are part of the Montagna Vicentina LAG has been divided into four macro areas, which belong to the Plateau, Valdastico, Valbrenta and Pasubio - Piccole Dolomiti.

The LAG operates at 360 degrees at local level in all economic sectors, intervening in support of work, entrepreneurship, social development, implementation of services for people and businesses. The challenge for these areas, and in particular for the most marginal, is to guarantee their citizens conditions of access to services and overall livability that are comparable to those of urban contexts.

To encourage participation and access to services by all LAG members, from September a counter is also active , on Thursdays and Fridays, at the park of Villa Laverda of the member "Comune di Breganze" .
The Board of Directors believes it is of fundamental importance to encourage the opening of information desks located throughout the territory, in order to bring the LAG closer to its users, promoting relations with the citizen and the community inspired by trust, collaboration and transparency.
