In the historical Italian panorama of World War I there is a name that perhaps more than any other embodies thehorror, the tragedy, the inadequate preparation to face the first war of the modern era; the name comes from Mount Ortigara.

Not for nothing, the sniper tapum rhythm, punctuated by one of the best-known songs of war that this name fits, is entered in thenational collective imaginary, creating a symbolic equation that is now deeply rooted in the bowels of this mountain: Ortigara equal death.

Even today those halls the barren mountains that mark the border between theveneto Plateau and the valleys of Trentino, it does so with reverence, with respect, almost with awe.

And if talking about Ortigara, the risk is to fall in the repetition of the facts, the obviousness of the analysis, just remind once more what they told the witnesses, as theAlpine World that left says: "the war uglier I saw on Mount Ortigara".

Tanto has written about this battle that now has a few secrets to hide. However, a careful consideration of the events, you can see still a message to collect and pass on to future generations. On what is probably the most impressive monument of the great war, the mozza located at 2105 share of Ortigara, there are three symbols engraved words: "LEST WE FORGET".

Well, the message that we wanted to leave those who have recorded has a twofold significance. Don't forget, you future generations, the suffering, the pain, the anguish that goes with war, even the most righteous, even that it seems and is sometimes necessary.

Most importantly, don't forget about these feelings tested them directly, do not forget the men who have lived this tragedy on their skin, sometimes unaware sometimes voluntarily meeting andandovi. Don't forget theman, the boy, the father, the son, the husband who had to struggle with the thought to family far away.

Il try that we're going to do is just to Live from the inside the emotions and feelings that arose the protagonists. The attempt to give a name and a face to the thousands of cattle that have fought, because if it is easy, in reenactments, exposing horrific but still dry figures, it is equally difficult to understand that behind each number there is a person who has brought with him to battle his own experiences, which had a history of life unique and unrepeatable, who had left other humans to wait, that at one point you had to come out, he felt targeted as a cardboard cutout, had to fight and kill in order not to be killed.

To them and to succeeding generations, who continued the traditions in other tragic theatres of war, this book is dedicated. The guide is therefore to propose a new model of tourism "informed" and aware of the events that shook the montagna vicentina nearly a century ago.

Camminamento Italiano che Sale al LozzeThe proposed itineraries , by Prof. Mario Busana, are designed to combine the pleasure of hiking, on well-marked paths and easy access, with the rediscovery of countless historical records left by soldiersof both sides, who fought onMount Ortigara.

A visit to Ortigara is further enriched by the recent restorations are performed on the trenches by theEcomuseum of the great war, and by the presence of a refreshment at the Rifugio Cecchin managed byA.N.A. of Marostica.
