Thel continuous wind movement never gives peace to walk safely, theecho of artillery shots still seems to vibrate the air, the trenches of stone are there to witness the harsh life of the fighter, names and faces of young officers killed in battle from memory and often emerge from oblivion, the sound of the Bell in dimension is prayer that rises to heaven. About the saltOrtigara quite often it does so with a know-how based on oral tradition, that surely is a founding basis of the myth that hangs on the limestone column dimension mozza, but that sometimes is also the result of verbal stratifications that, over time, we have strayed from the truth. And precisely because of that respect that leads us every year to pay homage at the monument that commemorates the many men who on these ancient flounces borders have lost their lives or were wounded in body and soul, it is our duty to seek the truth.

Ma truth which we have yet to try theOrtigara? As authoritatively written by who has shared the massive search that eventually led to Enemies on Ortigara, the truth should not have adjectives, but simply be told and consciously unsettled in official historiography. Yet this is not the case. The "Austrian truth" and "truth italiana" can only run once as parallel railroad tracks, each folded on considerations of personnel who lived, now a century ago, those events.

Theour duty, not having participated in the events, cannot therefore be to seek and find, to give voice to those who has witnessed, and finally attempt to recompose a puzzle without risking falling into the chasm of partiality or banality. Be clear though, it will never be this an attempt of "historical revisionism", so much in vogue now among those seeking the limelight in easy recall or tabloid who bends history to its own use and interest. It is, instead, to review some key events of the battle fought by the Italian army in July 1917, using the tools of scientific research in order to finally throw light on many legendary episodes, sometimes major, sometimes minor, all entered the collective imagination with the power of the word broadcast.

Is a work full of pitfalls, it is necessary to deal with the mindset of an investigator, deepening knowledge, rereading the voices of witnesses, looking for reasons of acts, digging into the facts. Not easy, almost one hundred years after the events, but certainly a tempting challenge which can lead to a defeat, or hope in a new light. But it is also an opportunity to disseminate new research, in order to please the many fans who don't get tired, just like those who dig in the archives, to go beyond the superficial knowledge of the War Chronicle, to discover what lies beyond the trench cuts off the trail.

Non forgetting, as the epigraph of the column of 2105 share, that all players, regardless of nationality or rank, are entitled to the greatest respect, whether senior officers in command, often left alone in making their decision, are simple, as soldiers just before his death in combat.To all and sundry, as parts of a single great sacrifice, our respect and our gratitude. For all, the right to truth, or at least that truth that we can try to reconstruct contemporaries, to make sense of important anniversaries that we're going to celebrate.
We owe it to Them, they were up there.
