Destination: Monte Verena 2015 m - Asiago Plateau Seven Municipalities

May 24, 1915 at 3:55 a.m., from Fort Verena, nicknamed the "Dominator of the Highlands", the first cannon shot was fired which sanctioned Italy's entry into the war. 

May 24, 1915: the date that forever marked the landscape and the life of the inhabitants of the Asiago Plateau Seven Municipalities.

Retrace with us the military roads and walkways used by Italian soldiers during the First World War, until you reach the imposing ruins of Forte Verena, an important structure, part of the Agno-Assa Barrage. Learn how this strategically placed fort dominated the Highlands and how it was hit by Austro-Hungarian artillery.

In addition to history, we will enjoy a 360° panorama that sweeps from the Alps to the Venetian Lagoon, admiring the places that once belonged to the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The excursion also offers the opportunity to observe the typical flora and fauna of the Plateau, among woods and pastures.

After the visit to the Fort, the warmth and typicality of the Verena Refuge awaits us, which offers the following menu for dinner:

• Sopressa with homemade pickled vegetables
• Mountain herb cream
• Tosella with butter
• Dessert of the house
• Water coffee 

At the end, a downhill path awaits us under the stars that will give us a sense of infinite gratitude for the time of peace we are living here and now.

Reservations are required. Dinner is along the way, to be considered mandatory.

📈 DIFFICULTY: we assign a difficulty 4 on a scale from 1 (very easy) to 5 (challenging)

The route develops between mountain paths and dirt roads and paths. The uphill elevation gain is less than 550 m, there are no compulsory exposed sections.

🎒TO BRING ALONG: mountain boots, layered clothing suitable for the mountain climate (an extra layer is recommended to keep in the backpack for the route after dinner), waterproof jacket, backpack with water for the duration of the excursion, a small snack such as dried fruit, hat, any head torch possibly with a fixed red light, any trekking poles.

🫰COST: €25 for the guided excursion per person, €10 for children under 15 and season ticket holders. 

Participants will be offered a taste of local products. 

🍽 COST OF DINNER: € 25 per person for the above menu at the Forte Verena Refuge to be paid directly at the refuge. 

It is not possible to book dinner only here.
