The charm of the winter mountain meets history on the Asiago Plateau with the excursion "Discovering the Winter Mountain", scheduled in Gallio for Saturday 4 January 2025.
It will be a day dedicated to the discovery of one of the most significant and evocative places in our territory: Valbella, the scene of dramatic events during the Great War.
If conditions permit, the excursion will take place with the help of snowshoes, giving participants the opportunity to immerse themselves in the snow and winter landscapes of the plateau. Alternatively, the route will be a walk that does not lose its charm, thanks to the unique views and tangible signs left by history.
During the journey, the facts related to the battle of the Melette in 1917 will be narrated, which saw the Italian troops face bitter battles against the Austrians along the heights of Valbella, Col del Rosso and Col d'Ecchele.
The traces of the craters left by the bombings and the remains of the Italian resistance lines will accompany us along the way, helping us to understand the historical importance of this area.
The excursion will reach the top of Valbella (1248 m a.s.l.), from where it will be possible to admire an extraordinary 360° panorama: from the central basin of the Plateau, to the Grappa massif, up to the Venetian lagoon. Along the way, you will explore little-known natural corners and observe the spruce and beech forests, which reveal their unique charm in winter.
