BOOK "THE THINGS WE DON'T TELL OURSELVES (all the way)" - Garzanti
In the Italian public debate, a piece of truth always seems to be missing: in order to gather a few crumbs of consensus and satisfy the appetites of lobbies and power groups, an inexorable narrative of convenience that exempts us from any personal and collective responsibility is inexorably advanced.
For this reason Ferruccio de Bortoli, with merciless lucidity, underlines those distortions and those dangers that are too often concealed in Italy. Why do we not tell ourselves to the end that we spend more than we should, without worrying about the growth of public debt; that we cannot live on state subsidies without creating income; it is an illusion to want to defend employment by using taxpayers' money to finance companies with no future. The growth of human capital is often overlooked, scientific culture is not widespread, and populist anti-Europeanism is rampant with no solid economic reasons.
But it is only by recovering the best spirit that we have shown from north to south in the hard weeks of self-exclusion that we can face once and for all our shortcomings to return to having confidence in tomorrow, a real prospect for a strong national recovery.
