The Institute of Cimbrian Culture also for the summer 2023 proposes some interesting cultural meetings, which will be held in Roana at the headquarters of the Institute (via R. Sartori, 20) starting at 21:00.
The third and final meeting, curated by Francesco Manzoni, will be held on Thursday 24 August.
The evening, entitled "J. A. Schmeller - Report on the Cimbrians", will be dedicated precisely to Johann Andreas Schmeller (1785 – 1852), famous German linguist, editor of the Bavarian Dictionary. He added to the activity of cataloguing and studying the texts of Old German, the activity of linguistic research in the field, for which he made some trips to the Cimbrian linguistic islands of the Lavarone plateau, the Altopiano dei Sette Comuni in the Vicenza area and the Thirteen Municipalities in the Veronese area, where he first recognized the close kinship between the Cimbrian dialect and the Bavarian dialect of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries.
