On Saturday 30 August 2025, the E-Bike Rental of the Valmaron Refuge offers an unmissable excursion for lovers of history and the mountains: a guided e-bike tour on Monte Fior, in the heart of the Melette mountain range, which was the scene of bloody clashes during the First World War.
The excursion "Monte Fior: the city of rock" is challenging, designed for hikers with good preparation and experience in e-bikes. The route winds through old military mule tracks, trenches carved into the rock and breathtaking landscapes, until it reaches the top of Monte Fior (1824 m), one of the most panoramic of the plateau.
The area, now immersed in silence, was once the front of bitter fighting between the Italian and Austro-Hungarian armies. Numerous war remains are still visible today: posts, walkways, trenches and tunnels that make Monte Fior a real open-air museum.
The particular rock formations that characterize the area have earned it the nickname of "city of rocks", making it one of the most fascinating places on the entire plateau.
The tour departs at 8:30 am from the Valmaron Refuge and returns around 12:30 pm, with typical lunch at the refuge included.
The excursion is open both to those who rent an e-bike at the Valmaron Refuge, and to those who use their own. Different rates apply depending on the option you choose (see details below).
