
Within the calendar of "Su, in Malga!", the summer festival promoted by the Municipality of Gallio to enhance the culture of the mountain pastures, on Friday 5 September 2025, from 6:30 to 11:00, a unique experience is scheduled: an excursion at dawn with a visit to Malga Laste di Manazzo, immersed in the splendid setting of Val Formica.
Those who frequent the mountain huts in the early hours of the day know it: there are two unmistakable sounds that start the day. The first is the crackling of the wood of the fire that has just been lit, the second is the mumbling of the mocha that spreads the scent of hot coffee in the air. This is how the herdsmen start their days, with a simple but substantial "pan e caffèlate" as fuel to face work.
They gather the herd, milk the cows and give life to an ancient ritual: the production of cheese, an authentic "gold" of the territory. A process made up of experience, passion and a pinch of magic, made even more evocative by the silence of dawn and the first rays of sunshine that color the mountains of the Plateau.
The excursion includes a genuine breakfast in the hut (for which a contribution of € 5 per person is required) and the opportunity to watch the cheesemaking, to get to know this ancient craft deeply rooted in the local culture.

The route does not present any particular technical difficulties, is suitable for everyone and develops between dirt roads and mountain paths. The uphill elevation gain is less than 150 m, there are no exposed sections.
🎒TO BRING ALONG: mountain boots, layered clothing suitable for the mountain climate, waterproof jacket, backpack with water for the duration of the excursion, a small snack such as dried fruit, sunscreen, sunglasses, hat.
