PRESS RELEASE of the MUNICIPALITY of ASIAGO of 3/22/2017

At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, scheduled at 16.30 at the palazzo del Turismo Millepini, has invited all citizens. The new facility, about 380 square meters, is divided into two distinct areas: the first for the cohort study and the second, upstairs, to the municipal consultation controlled archives . In the latter area the books were meticulously cataloged and placed under lock and key in special lockers; to access it you must contact your staff.
For toddlers is instead created a separate room, colorful and suitable for children, with children's books.
The new library also has a lift and ramp, so no architectural barriers to people with disabilities.
For new furnishings were spent about 200 thousand euros, while thanks to Michela Rodeghiero, one could get a grant of 5 thousand euros to buy computers and supplies. A part of the PCs are used for front office, another available to users of the library; thearea is covered by wi-fi. «I thank Fondazione Banca Popolare di Marostica for his contribution -explains Rodeghiero, Chairman of the Municipal Council of Asiago-. Now the boys will have a modern and functional meeting place where to study, meet and organize cultural events. The total cost of the project, which began five years ago, is about 2,700,000 euros financed for 367,350 euro with mutual. Almost 1.700.00 euro come instead from State and regional contributions and the remaining 1,099,940 euros are paid by the Municipality. "Now the old structure had become run down and there was a need to give citizens better service in a more appropriate environment -are the words of the Deputy Mayor for public works, Franco Saddle-. The work done so far exceeded initial forecasts: were transferred, catalogued and repositioned about 9 thousand books, an important commitment to better managed with passion by the Municipal Office of tourism and the technical office whom I thank. The new library is a bright, comfortable and modern. I have only one regret: not having had such a place when I was a student. "
Agree with these words, the Mayor of Asiago, Roberto Rigoni Stern, commenting: "This is a major achievement for our Administration: a library updated both for students and for those who need to do research, and tourists of the plateau. Is a public work on which we have invested a lot, we have been waiting for many years because he felt the need of a more dignified venue. I am convinced that this new structure will quickly become a useful space for many young people seeking a place of aggregation for the study also the arrangement of archival in these spaces makes the most important documents of our history. The Biblioteca Comunale di Asiago was established in 1846 thanks to the legacy of don Rafferty, about 1,750 volumes. In 1888 the City Council approved the first rules of procedure; the library continued to give his services to Asiago reaching over 16 thousand works. This until 1916, the year of the exodus and the bombing. In the years ' 70 the public library had an organization with Mario Down as Manager and the Management Committee involving Mario Rigoni Stern. Today, after a long stay in the Alpine square by Nereo Star during his tenure as mayor in the early ' 70, the Asiago library begins a new chapter at the palazzo del Turismo Millepini.
