Fire on Portule of December 28, 2015, Asiago plateau

Portule ablaze, 2 Canadair and three helicopters engaged in fire fighting operations

UPDATING of 17.30 of 12/29/2015. The fire on theAsiago plateau seems to have been tamed. Remain vigilant because the flames will not trigger again.

The success of the operation is the result of hard work by forces team of firefighters, Forest Rangers, civil defence and the many volunteers who have worked hard for hours in order to quell the flames.

ASIAGO PLATEAU 7 COMMUNITIES. At the crack of dawn this morning started the fire fighting operations of the devastating fire that, late in the morning of Monday, 28 December, broke out on the massif of Portule, about 2000 meters above sea level, extending for a total of about 100 hectares.

Yesterday, the fire fighting operations commenced immediately and lasted all day, involving firefighters, agents of the State Forestry Corps and fighting volunteers Highland stations, of Vicenza and Trentino. In the afternoon, was also attended by two civil protection helicopters in Trentino to try to counteract the heavy forest fire.

The reinforcements, however, were not enough to tame the blaze, which continued to spread, partly because the soil is very dry, for about 100 acres on the slopes of Cima Portule, larch and the top Vent.

Around 17.30, after dark, the fire fighting operations were stopped. Throughout the night, firefighters have manned with three fire appliances the road leading to Bocchetta Portule, to prevent the fire subsided below street level.

At the crack of dawn, the fire fighting operations are then begin again. Engaged in an effort to tame the flames, well five aircraft: two Canadair firefighting, airborne respectively from Genoa and Rome Ciampino, fueling skis on the Lake Caldonazzo, trentino and three helicopters of the State Forestry Corps, two took off from Trento and Venice. To work around thirty firefighters, of Asiago, Thiene, Vicenza, Recoaro and together with Highland fire volunteers and Trentino (neighbouring area) and the Corpo Forestale di Asiago and Trento.

For now the flames on Portule seem to be running low, having burned all vegetation.

You do not yet know the causes of the fire, that no hypothesis is excluded. Among the tracks to a willful act.
