Ahead of the crowd for the big events was inaugurated Saturday, March 25, the new public library of Asiago.

Over three hundred people attended, with projected direct in one screen in the underlying Theater Millepini, the ribbon cutting of the new service, a testament to how this work was waiting from citizenship.

For more than a century, the library of the capital plateau was represented by a narrow deposit of years ' 70 where books and documents were not easy to read. At the ribbon-cutting ceremony were present civil, military and religious authorities who crowded the large area on the top floor of the Palace of tourism and culture of the Park Brigade Queen. In addition to themunicipal administration and the City Council of youth, to officially open the doors of the new library were Francis Gonzo, Councillor delegate for culture, and Roberto Xausa, President of the Fondazione Banca di Marostica which contributed with a sum of 5,000 euros to buy computers and supplies. A part of the pc were used for the front office, another is available to users of the library.

The new facility, about 380 square meters all covered by wi-fi, is divided into two distinct areas: the first for the cohort study and the second, upstairs, to consult controlled municipal archives. In the latter area the books were meticulously cataloged and placed under lock and key in special lockers; to access it you must contact your staff.

For toddlers is instead created a separate room, colorful and suitable for children, with children's books. The new library also has a lift and ramp, so no architectural barriers to people with disabilities.

The total cost of the project, which began five years ago, is about 2,700,000 euros financed for 367,350 euro with mutual. Almost 1.700.00 euro come instead from State and regional contributions and the remaining 1,099,940 euros are paid by the Municipality.

I remember the previous venue had been listed as "provisional" and has remained so for over 45 years. I wanted to create a space to bring together young people, a meeting place where you can grow through culture, through many volumes or the ancient documents that will eventually be accessible to fans and lovers of our history, a place to accommodate children and where able to accommodate our seniors and our many guests. In short, an extraordinary space for Asiago she waited too long. "

The inauguration was a big event just because it symbolizes, at a distance of 101 years, the end of reconstruction of Asiago after the bombing of May 16, 1916 destroyed what was once the pride of the population: the library. The latter became common in 1846 thanks to the legacy of over 1,700 volumes by don Rafferty. In 1888 the collection asiaghese reached the 16 thousand works. All lost. Only the old archives of the Regency and the consortium between municipalities was saved; but until now it was not usable. But now even the correspondence that collects the history and identity of the people plateau, restored thanks to regional funding, has its place and is available upon request.
