Mario Rigoni Stern was one of the most significant writers of the postwar years and resulted in his writing not only the stories and the experiences of a generation who experienced the tragedy of the second world war and the retreat of Russia but also a unique worldview that taps into deep roots of humanity, in a close relationship with nature and to a positive vision of the human being. Writes in the preface of the volume dedicated to Stern Eraldo Affinati in the meridians Mondadori: "Standing with him I learned a further distinction: one that separates the narrator of oral tradition from one who writes. The first, warm up in front of a group of people near the fire, sudden every time the story; the second is concerned with how we interpreted his words secured forever, has his ears up, like the hound. I recognize in the attention of Rigoni towards his interlocutor the very essence of literature: the disposition to Snipping each branch superfluous while returning the full meaning of what has been done and said".

The award is divided into two areas: the Regione Veneto and the province of Trento. In Venice in Veneto will be the award ceremony of the 2017 Edition.
Numerous bodies and associations which support the initiative: Veneto region, municipality of Asiago, province of Trento, the municipality of Riva del Garda, besides Cassa di Risparmio del Veneto, Banca di Trento e Bolzano, Riva del Garda trade fairs and conferences, the Ars Venandi and the Italian Federation of hunting, the Museo degli Usi e Costumi della Gente Trentina.
