Press release of the Municipality of Roana of 7 April 2025
The inauguration of the photographic and documentary exhibition "100 years of the Roana Bridge" will be held on Thursday 17 April 2025, at 10.30 a.m., at the Hall of Mirrors of Palazzo Ferro Fini in Venice, the prestigious headquarters of the Veneto Regional Council.
The exhibition traces the history of the Roana Bridge, located on the Plateau of the Seven Municipalities, in the Province of Vicenza, through historical photographs and unpublished documents.
Built in the early 1900s, the Roana Bridge was a state-of-the-art engineering masterpiece, a symbol of progress and connection for the local community. Destroyed in 1916 by order of the Italian Supreme Command during the Great War, in order to hinder the advance of the Austro-Hungarian army in the Strafexpedition, the bridge was rebuilt and inaugurated in September 1924, marking the rebirth of the community after the devastation of the conflict.
Today, the Roana Bridge represents not only a monument of great historical and cultural value, but also an essential infrastructure for the local road network, connecting the centers of Roana, Mezzaselva and Rotzo to the neighboring territories and the rest of the province of Vicenza.
The inauguration ceremony will be attended by Roberto Ciambetti, President of the Veneto Regional Council, Luigi Martello, Mayor of Roana and Alessio Fabris, Councillor for Public Works and Culture of the Municipality of Roana.
Councillor Fabris declares: "Being able to exhibit the photographic exhibition for the 100th anniversary of the Roana bridge in the prestigious venue of Palazzo Ferro Fini is very significant for Roana and more generally for the Plateau. On the one hand, in fact, it is an opportunity to tell and make known an important part of our history in a city, Venice, which in addition to being the capital of Veneto is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. On the other hand, it represents a sign of attention to our territory on the part of the regional institutions, and in particular of the Regional Council and its President Roberto Ciambetti, whom I thank for his availability on behalf of the Municipal Administration of Roana.”
The exhibition will offer visitors a unique opportunity to explore the historical, engineering and social events related to the Roana Bridge, through an exhibition itinerary enriched by period photographs, original documents and testimonies on its construction, destruction and rebirth.
The exhibition will be open to the public from April 17 to May 6, 2025, with free admission.
