Statement by the Mayor of Asiago, Roberto Rigoni Stern, on the closure of schools of every grade on Wednesday 31 October because of adverse weather conditions that hit the town of Asiago in the evening of Monday, October 29:

" In the face of weather calamities that have befallen our city and much of the Veneto region causing serious damage to our forests and to economic activities, I would like to thank law enforcement, in particular the fire brigade Fire, along with many technicians, volunteers of the civil protection and workers engaged in ensuring the resolution of problems encountered in traffic and in coping with the many inconveniences caused by this wave of bad weather that, fortunately, did not result in any injury to persons. Technicians and workers of Enel, with whom the Administration is in constant contact, they're trying very hard to solve the very serious damage found on the high-voltage transmission line that feeds much of the Plateau. At present, we have been told recently that reactivation of electricity should take place no earlier than 21.00 hours tonight. For these reasons, since there are still no guarantees about the timing of the resolution of the breakdowns, I signed an order establishing the closing of schools of every grade insistant in our common on tomorrow October 31. At the same time, given the precarious state of many trees, I placed a ban on access to municipal parks of historic and any trail of our mountain ".
