THE "FRONT" OF VAIA: Project funded by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers

Realize some of the works that will be installed along the new educational path

Enhance the areas that were the "Front" of the Great War and that in October 2018 were hit by the "Front" of the Vaia storm. This is the goal that themunicipal administration of Roana aims at through the project The "Front" of Vaia. Realized thanks to a loan provided with an agreement between the Veneto Region and the Presidency of the Council of Ministers,it aims to enhance the territories affected by the Vaia event in memory of the historical events of the First World War.
Among the various actions of the project is the construction of a thematic route in Cesuna in the area of Monte Lemerle where the hurricane has cut down about 1,200 cubic meters of timber, the same places where the Italian army was able to definitively stop the famous Austro-Hungarian advance that took the name of Strafexpedition. The route that will be built will have a length of about 6 km with a difference in height of about 200 meters. During the walk, the hiker will cross the areas of particular war and environmental importance and will be able to visit 6 points of interest. In each of these points will be placed artistic sculptures and symbolic works made with wood from the plants felled by Vaia.
There are also many events and activities that will be carried out, including numerous guided tours made available free of charge to citizens and tourists. These excursions will be carried out in the territories of the Great War affected by the Vaia event and will take place during all weekends starting from Friday 27 August until the end of October.
The involvement of citizenship is not limited to adults. Numerous activities are also planned for children and young people,with an initial classroom training already started in May in order to facilitate the understanding of the connection between the two Vaia-Great War events and which will continue following the opening of schools with the realization of experiential activities directly in the field. The students of the schools of the Municipality of Roana will symbolically participate in the restoration of the areas compromised by Vaia through a symbolic planting that will be carried out by planting deciduous plants just as a symbol of restoration, thus healing, symbolically, those indelible traces left on the territory.
Among the scheduled events, one in particular is that of the day for the commemoration to be held next autumn and during which citizens and tourists will be able to attend both aliterary performative activity and a particular and interesting theatrical performance. These representations will allow those present to pause and reflect on the many aspects of the Great War in the areas affected by Vaia.
An interesting photo contestwill also be opened shortly, aimed at all citizens and where competitors will have to show, through their "photo shoot", a correlation between the two historical events Great War and Vaia.
