The Winged Lion by Marco Martalar made with the wood of the trees crashed by the Vaia storm, symbol of the strength of the Venetians
This beautiful video made by Andrea Vardi presents the extraordinary work of art"THE WINGED LION OF VAIA"by the Roanese artist Marco Martalar.
Made with 1500 pieces of trees cut down and roots brittle by the Vaia storm - which in October 2018 razed to the ground thousands of hectares of forests in the North-East and in particular on the Plateau - it is the largest Winged Lionin the world, with its 350 kg by 3 meters in height and 4.5in length.

The work wants to be in fact a tribute to the Venetians,who withfierezza, courage and strength throughout history have overcome every adversity,including famines, wars and natural disasters.
Like Nature that, from destruction, is always reborn with Beauty and Pride.
For its great symbolic value,the magnificent creation, made on theAsiago Plateau (Vicenza),in Mezzaselva di Roana,was chosen to be exhibited at the 77th Venice Film Festival.
