The Interrupted Fort on the Plateau of the Seven Municipalities - Video by Edoardo Pontini
Thanks to this wonderful video made on 31/10/2021 by Edoardo Pontini with his drone, we can visit the INTERRUPTED FORT, filmed both outside and inside and surrounded by the colorful autumn foliage.
The privileged aerial shots perfectly convey the idea of the grandeur of this military structure, which has undergone an important restoration (as part of the project called "Ecomuseum Great War of the Vicenza Prealps"), which gave it an appearance very similar to the original one.
It is a military barracks built entirely of stone in the second half of the 1800s and partially fortified at the outbreak of the First World War to defend the Italian border against the Austro-Hungarian Empire, constituting a barrier of the upper Val d'Assa in case of enemy advance, thanks to its dominant and strategic position on the Asiago plateau.
With its mighty stone and brick walls, the two towers at opposite corners and the moat around (originally with drawbridge), it looks more like a medieval castle than a nineteenth-century fortification.
The name "Interrupted" does not mean, unlike what one might think, work interrupted in its construction, but derives from the mountain on which it stands, precisely the Interrupted Mountain. Note that the term "Interrupted" is an Italianization of the Cimbrian word "Hinterrucks" which means "summit placed to the north".
In the video, in addition to the fort, you can also see a grazing flock, part of the route that leads to the fortress from the town of Camporovere (Roana) and the view of the central basin of the Altopiano dei Sette Comuni and Asiago and its Military Shrine.
