Renovated in 2011, it is the main square of Asiago, a meeting place and leisure for locals and tourists who, throughout the year, want to enjoy the beauty of the historic center of the town and have fun with the many events organized for young and old.
In spring and summer, in fact, Piazza Carli di Asiago is the setting for various initiatives and events, such as Asiago da Fiaba, art exhibitions, markets, concerts and much more.
In winter, then, the square is transformed into a place of enchantment, with the traditional Christmas markets to make the atmosphere truly magical.
Piazza Carli is also home to several monuments to visit during visits and walks in the village.
In the center of the square, the beautiful Fountain of the Fauna stands out, the only element that has remained unchanged and is subject only to restoration. Built on an octagonal base made of red Asiago marble, on the sides it has four bronze sculptures representing a capercaillie, a fox, an eagle and a squirrel. In the center of the fountain, there is the main statue depicting a faun riding a roe deer. The faun is the patron deity of flocks and fields, with pointed ears, horns and goat feet.
In the beautiful square of Asiago there is also the Cathedral of San Matteo, dedicated to the patron saint of the city. Inside the cathedral, destroyed during the Great War and then rebuilt, there are two altarpieces by Francesco da Ponte the Younger and Francesco da Ponte the Elder. Outside, On the south side of the church, in 2003 the ancient sundial in the shape of a triptych with a painting of St. Matthew in the center was relocated.
Between Piazza Carli and Piazza II Risorgimento stands the city's Town Hall , built in red and white Asiago marble. The town hall was rebuilt after the First World War and is famous for its beautiful bell tower with the Lion of St. Mark carved on white marble.
