From Monday 22 to Saturday 27 August 2022 the historic center of Asiago will host the 40th edition of the International Competition of Outdoor Wood Carvings, a beautiful event dedicated to the art of wood carving that for many years has thrilled highlanders and tourists from all over Italy (and beyond).

The competition will be attended by several artists, Italian and foreign, who will create their sculpture starting from a wooden trunk or a panel, under the watchful eye of passers-by in the main streets and squares of the town and the historic center.

Visitors will have the opportunity to contemplate the skilful art of the sculptors and admire the works take shape slowly, spending pleasant days immersed in the atmosphere imbued with art in the center of Asiago.

The award ceremony of the 40th edition of the International Symposium of Wood Sculpture Competition "City of Asiago" will be held Saturday, August 27 at 16:00 at the Gardens of Piazza Carli.

The regulations relating to the health emergency in force at the time will apply.

RULES OF THE 40TH ASIAGO INTERNATIONAL WOODCARVING COMPETITION, 22 - 27 AUGUST 2022

1) The Municipality of Asiago, on the occasion of the 40th International Symposium Competition of Outdoor Wood Carvings, which will take place in the pedestrian area and in the city squares from Monday 22 to Saturday 27 August 2022, intends to renew this event and transform it into a Symposium and therefore there will not be a winner nor the related cash prize. 

2) Participation in the symposium this year will be by invitation. In the event that among the invited sculptors there are cancellations, the sculptors who have requested participation by May 20, 2022 will be chosen. 

3) There will be a total of 14 sculptors and the participating sculptor must indicate the preference between trunk or panel. 

4) The sculptures must be made using: 

a. a trunk of Swiss stone pine with a height of cm. 150 and the diameter of 40 - 50 cm provided by the organization and that must be exploited to the maximum; 

b. a panel of Swiss stone pine cm. About 120x80x10 provided by the organization and that will have to be exploited to the maximum. In this case, it is recommended to have a special panel holder that cannot be requested from the organization. 

Nb. There are n. 10 trunks and 4 panels available so the choice by the artist will not bind the Administration which, in the case of requests exceeding the number of logs or panels available, will be free to assign to extraction. 

5) The tools for processing must be the property of the Artist. 

6) Each artist must bring a spotlight with its extension to illuminate the sculpture in the evening hours. 

7) Each station is equipped with connection to 220v electric current.

8) Each sculptor will be invited to bring two or three works to set up their own station. 

9) Also this year the extraction of the stations will be done by office in the days before the competition and will be communicated to the participating sculptors before their arrival and therefore each sculptor will find already from 8.00 am on Monday 22 August his own ready station. 

10) The costs of board and lodging are borne by the Organization from 18.00 on 21 August to 18.00 on 27 August 2022. 

11) The works will be owned by the artists. 

12) For the full success of the event, each station must remain active for the entire period established in order to involve the citizens in the best possible way. 

13) The confirmation of participation by the sculptors invited by the Municipality must be sent by Friday 20 May 2022. 

14) The request for participation is free and must be formalized by filling out the appropriate form, accompanied by a personal curriculum in A 4 format and 2 photos of the most significant works. 15) The Municipality of Asiago assumes no responsibility for damage that may be caused to people and things during processing. 

16) The Municipality also reserves the right to purchase one of the works of the symposium at the controlled price of € 2,000.00 gross (corresponding to the amount that has always been allocated for the prize).

The works will be gathered at the "Giardini di Piazza Carli" from the morning of Saturday 27 August. 

In order to be admitted to the final exhibition, they must necessarily be completed by the evening of Friday 26 August and the morning of Saturday 27 can be used for small finishes.
