50th International Prize for Filatelic Art in Asiago - 20 September 2020

Award for the best postage stamp in Asiago

The 50th edition of the International Prize of Filatelic Art,organized by the Philatelic Circle of the Seven Municipalities, in collaboration with the City of Asiago,will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2020.

Also this year, theimportant event will premier the best stamp issued in the previous year by postal administrations around the world.

The award ceremony will be held at the Qaudri Hall of Asiago Town Hall at 11 a.m.,in the presence of various authorities. What will be the most beautiful stamp?

By the Postal Administrations of Italy, the Republic of San Marino and Portugal, there will be posted offices equipped with special cancellations illustrated.

AN ALPINE STAR TO BE "TOUCHED" ON THE SAN MARINO STAMP INTERNATIONAL ASIAGO ART PHILATELIC AWARD

It is a special alpine star that is depicted on the San Marino stamp from 2.20 euros of June 16 that celebrates the half century of the International Asiago Prize of philatelic art,considered theworld Oscar of philately.

Through the Philatelic and Numismatic Office directed by Gioia Giardi, the oldest Republic in the world, founded by the holy stonemason Marino, has in fact decided to have the candida alpine star, symbol of the Asiago Prize,printed by the French Cartor, in refined embossing,in relief. So that by touching the work of Space Explorers with your fingertip, to which you owe the sketch, it seems true. An alpine star formed stamp to touch with affectionate and respectful delicacy, "like butterfly wing", to put it with Ermanno Olmi. The inscription "San Marino numismatic philatelic office" has been printed using invisible ink, as per traditional.  "

The stamp, on the day of issue marked with a cancellation that in turn shows the Alpine star, was authorized by delegate decree of 20 May, number 87, signed by the Captains Regent Alessandro Mancini and Grazia Zafferani, as well as by the Secretary of State for Internal Affairs, Elena Tonnini.
"It is a beautiful and precious tribute," admits Asiago Mayor Roberto Rigoni Stern. In turn Gioia Giardi, director of the San Marino Philalic and Numismatic Office assures that"for us it is an honor to celebrate such a prestigious award, which San Marino has won 5 times. For such an important occasion and to embellish this stamp – add the particular technique of embossing was chosen: relief printing,trying in this way to meet the needs of the most demanding collectors who wish to preserve printed series with special techniques in their collection and, at the same time to give a fresh and artistic alternative to the 'simple' offset printing".

Like most events, the 50th anniversary edition of the Asiago d'Art International Prize, due to the Pandemic, has been postponed. As usual, it was to be awarded on Sunday, July 5. In agreement with the mayor of Asiago, Roberto Rigoni Stern, it was moved to 20 September 2020.
