Sunday, August 28, 2022, with departure and arrival in the center of Asiago, will take place the 8th Strafexpedition Ultrarail, a mountain race through paths, mule tracks and cart tracks, organized by the Sportiva 7 Comuni with Alpine sections Asiago Plateau, Alpine Rescue, Civil Protection Asiago and Roana, Carabinieri Association and various local volunteer groups.

The route takes place on paths at an altitude between 1000 m and 2300 m.

On the same track there will be 3 races:

– long route of about 50 km with a positive difference in height of about 2400 meters, departure at 7.00 am on 28.08.2022 from Asiago

– average route of about 35 km with a positive difference in height of about 1400 meters, departure at 7.00 am on 28.08.2022 from Asiago

– short route of about 20 km with a positive difference in height of about 1000 meters, departure at 9.00 am on 28.08.2022 from Asiago.

The routes will take the athletes to the most significant places in the history of the Great War, such as Vezzena, Mandriolo, Larici, Portule, Cima 12, Ortigara, Zebio, until the arrival in the central square of Asiago.

REGULATION

art. 1 – Organization The amateur sports association "Sportiva7Comuni", affiliated A.S.I., in collaboration with the Alpine sections of the Asiago Plateau, organizes the eighth edition of the StrafeXpedition, a race in nature that will take place on Sunday 28 August 2022.

 art. 2 – Acceptance of the regulation The StrafeXpedition will take place in accordance with these regulations, and any changes and notices that will be published on the official website and on the strafexpedition Facebook page.

Participation in the StrafeXpedition implies acceptance by the registered competitors in all its parts and without reservation of these regulations.

Competitors are also required to comply with the highway code, in particular in the sections where the route crosses the ordinary road network, which will not be closed to vehicular traffic.

By registering, each competitor undertakes to comply with this regulation and frees the organizers from any civil or criminal liability for any accident or accident, for damage to persons or things derived from him or caused by himself, which may occur during the event.

art. 3 – Try Running in a natural environment, which runs through paths, mule tracks and cart tracks of the Asiago Plateau. The route takes place on paths at an altitude between 1000 m and 2300 m. On the same track there will be three races:

– long route of about 50 km with a positive difference in height of about 2400 meters, departure at 7.00 am on 28.08.2022 from Asiago (Vi).

– average route of about 35 Km with a positive difference in height of about 1400 meters, departure at 7.00 am on 28.08.2022 from Asiago (Vi).– short route of about 21 km with a positive difference in height of about 1000 meters, departure at 9.00 am on 28.08.2022 from Asiago (Vi).

art. 4 – Participation The race is open to all persons, men and women, who have reached the age of 18 in the year of the race, in possession of a sports medical certificate of fitness for competitive athletics (Ministerial Decree 18.02.1982 tab. B) valid on the date of the race regardless of their membership in sports clubs or federations and in possession of one of the following requirements that must be declared at the time of registration:

– A.S.I Italian Sports and Social Associations members;

– F.I.D.A.L. Italian Athletics Federation members;

– free athletes not registered.

There are no restrictions on the acceptance of competitors in relation to their technical skills, however since the route includes numerous passages at high altitude and the conditions can be very difficult (wind, cold, rain or snow), careful training, a good hiking experience and a real capacity for personal autonomy are indispensable. Before proceeding with the registration to the StrafeXpedition it is therefore strongly recommended to have already participated in other trail races in an alpine environment.

art. 5 – Semi-self-sufficiency The race is in semi-self-sufficiency in water and food. Refreshment points will be supplied with food and drinking water. Each runner must make sure to have, at the start from each refreshment point, the minimum amount of water provided as mandatory material and the sufficient food reserve that will be necessary to get to the next refreshment point. Personal assistance along the route is prohibited. Personal assistance is allowed only in the appropriate spaces reserved by the organization near the refreshments. It is forbidden to be accompanied on the route by another person who is not regularly registered.

art. 6 – Registration procedure Registrations will be closed upon reaching a total of 700 members between long, medium and short distance.

Registrations must be made exclusively online, with payment by credit card, through the appropriate link on the official website of the race which refers to the registration manager.

In the event that the registered competitor does not provide the sports medical certificate, the bib number cannot be delivered and the competitor cannot take part in the race, without the right to any refund of the registration fee.

art. 7 – Registration fees  The registration fees are as follows:

The payment of the registration includes – Bib with race chip – Race pack and technical gadget – Medical assistance – Refreshments on the route + final refreshment – Showers-changing rooms – Pasta party or refreshment package (depending on the COVID restrictions provided)

art. 8 – Reimbursement of registration fees In case of renunciation of participation, it is expected the transfer of the bib to another competitor or the transfer of the registration to the next edition no later than 01/08/2022

art. 9 – Mandatory material  With the registration each runner signs the commitment to bring with him all the mandatory material listed below throughout the race, under penalty of disqualification. The mandatory material can be checked at the collection of the bib, at the departure or in surprise positions along the route and on arrival.

– water bottle or other container with at least one litre of water,

– working headlamp (only for 50K)

– thermal survival sheet,

– whistle,

– windbreaker to withstand bad weather conditions in the mountains – long-sleeved shirt

Strongly recommended material

– trail running shoes,

– mobile phone with the organization's emergency number stored

– route map published on the race website,

– warm clothing essential in case of expected cold weather, – elastic adhesive band suitable for making a bandage or strapping.

art. 10 – Bibs The bib number cannot be delivered without a copy of the medical certificate.

The bib must be worn on the chest or belly and always be made visible in its entirety throughout the race. It must therefore be placed on top of all clothing and in no case fixed elsewhere.

art. 11 – Safety and medical assistance A distress call post is established at the refreshment points. These seats are connected by radio or telephone with the race direction. Ambulances, Red Cross, Carabinieri, Alpine Rescue and doctors will be present on the territory.

The emergency posts are intended to provide assistance to all persons in danger by the organization's own means or through affiliated organizations. The official doctors are authorized to suspend the competitors judged unsuitable to continue the race. Rescuers are authorized to evacuate by all means of their convenience runners judged to be in danger.

In case of need, for reasons that are in the interest of the rescued person, only and exclusively in the judgment of the organization, official rescue will be invoked, which will take over the direction of operations and will put in place all appropriate means, including the helicopter. Any expenses arising from the use of these exceptional means will be borne by the person rescued according to the regulations in force.

A runner who appeals to a doctor or rescuer actually submits to his authority and undertakes to respect his decisions.

Art. 12 – Control posts and refuelling posts The detection of competitors is carried out at all checkpoints or at refreshment points. Only runners with a clearly visible bib have access to refuelling points.

On the website will be published the map of the route that will identify the refreshments and rescue points. "Flying" checkpoints will be placed in other places outside the rescue and refreshment posts. Their location will not be communicated by the organization.

Art. 13 – Maximum authorized time and time barriers The maximum time of the long test is set at 11 hours. The short test does not provide for any maximum time.

These time barriers are calculated to allow participants to reach the arrival in the maximum times imposed, still making any rest stops. To be allowed to continue the test, competitors must leave the control post before the fixed time limit.

Otherwise they will be disqualified, and the bib number withdrawn. The competitor who wants to continue without a bib, out of the race, will do so assuming all responsibility for the consequences that could derive from him.

In case of bad weather conditions and / or for safety reasons, the organization reserves the right to suspend the test in progress, delay the start, change the route, change the time barriers or cancel the race, without any notice.

art. 14 – Abandonments and returns In case of abandonment of the race along the route, the competitor is obliged to communicate his abandonment by being registered as withdrawn at the radio station of the nearest control point; the organization will take charge of its return from the control post itself to the base of Asiago (Vi); the return of those withdrawn outside the control posts shall not be guaranteed except in the event of an accident. In case of failure to communicate a withdrawal and the consequent start of the competitor's research, any resulting expenses will be charged to the competitor himself.

art. 15 – Penalties / disqualifications Competitors not found in possession of even a single element of their mandatory material will be immediately disqualified, without any possibility of appeal on this sanction.  art. 16 – Complaints Only written complaints are accepted within 30 minutes following the posting of the provisional results, with delivery of a deposit of € 50.00.

art. 17 – Jury The jury is composed of:

– the race director,
– by the director of the route,
– the security officer,
– by the persons of the organization possibly involved and summoned by the director of the race.

The jury is authorized to deliberate in a time compatible with the obligations of the race on all disputes or disqualifications that occurred during the race. Decisions taken are without appeal.

 art. 18 – Changes to the route or time barriers – Cancellation of the race The organization reserves the right to change at any time the route or location of the rescue and refreshment points, without notice. In case of adverse weather conditions or for other reasons not dependent on the organization and such as to put at risk the safety of the competitors, the start can be postponed or canceled, the route can be modified and reduced, the race can be stopped at any point of the track.

The aforementioned changes will be taken by the Jury, having also heard the opinion of the safety managers and the medical team.

The modification, suspension or cancellation of the race will not entitle competitors to any refund of the registration fee.

art. 19 – Route map The topographic map of the route, in its most updated edition, will be available on the official website of the race . Competitors are invited to download and print it. In it there will be practical information such as the closing times of the checkpoints and the description of the route. Each update of the route map will be published on the official website . A copy of the route card will be delivered with the bibs to the competitors.

art. 20 – Insurance The organization takes out liability insurance for the entire period of the trial. Participation takes place under the entire responsibility of the competitors, who renounce any recourse against the organizers in case of damage and further consequences that may occur as a result of the race. At the time of registration, the runner must sign a disclaimer of responsibility.

art. 21 – Rankings and awards The only competitors who will reach the finish line of Asiago and who will be registered on arrival will be included in the ranking.

An absolute general classification of men and women will be drawn up for all three tests. The first five absolute male classified and the first five absolute female classified of each test and the first five classified male over 50 and the first five classified female over 50 of each test will be awarded with products.

art. 22 – Rights to the image Each competitor expressly renounces to make use of the rights to the image during the test as well as renounces any recourse against the organization, and its authorized partners, for the use made of its image.

THE "REAL" STRAFEXPEDITION

Between May and June 1916 on the Vicenza highlands the Austro-Hungarian and Italian armies faced each other in the largest mountain battle ever fought, officially known as the Battle of the Highlands. The Italians called it Strafexpedition, after the German punitive expedition. At the end of the battle the losses between the two armies were over 230 thousand men.

For over three years the Vicenza highlands were the scene of bloody battles, and today the remains of that conflict are visible everywhere. Paths, appostamenti, garrisons and barracks are some of the testimonies left by the Great War on the Asiago Plateau 7 Municipalities.
