THE BOOK: LIFE HAPPENS  (Ed. Mondadori)

This is a story about men. "Men who do not know how to give voice to their emotions and therefore transform them into silences, or into dysfunctional actions." Paul is about to become a father. His wife Chiara wakes him up in the middle of the night to tell him that the time has come. When they get in the car and leave for the hospital, Paolo knows that this journey will change his life. And while he is overwhelmed by a whirlwind of emotions and memories, he cannot help but retrace his history, inhabited by male figures who have left him deep wounds, some still open. A past where suffering and discomfort have acted relentlessly, transforming into survival what should have been existence.

He then thinks back to his biological father Bruno, his father "de facto" Oreste and his foster father Giancarlo, to how their emotions, repressed and poorly managed, have become dangerous fuses, capable of unleashing devastating fires. The effort of these fathers in managing their own emotional sphere has shaped the growth of Paul, who drags his life into an uninterrupted "here and now" in which work becomes an alibi to pretend to live, remaining an eternal migrant in search of a landing. But if on the one hand he feels that he has inherited their difficulties, on the other he also cultivates the hope of the man who can become thanks to the encounter with Chiara and the transforming power of the birth of his son Tommaso. Here then is that in the face of dangerous and toxic relationships, which destroy, constructive and caring relationships are also born, which save.

With a careful and profound prose, which combines the knowledge of the psychotherapist with the skill of the narrator, Alberto Pellai stages the inner world of men, transforming their solitude and their silence into a universal story. And it tells, in these pages full of feeling, the story of a man who represents them all, who shows how only by making peace with one's past can one become resolved people, companions and better fathers.
