To support his sick mother, Osvaldo needs meat, and sets off on the hunt for chamois. He prepares to spend a lot of time in the cold of the woods, when he comes across what seems like a huge stroke of luck. A chamois just killed, buried in the snow by hunters, who will come to take it back.

Osvaldo gives in to temptation and takes the chamois. It won't take long for the rightful owners, the Legnole twins, two ugly people, body and soul, to learn who stole their chamois. And they decide that the culprit will have to pay with death.

Thus begins for Osvaldo a year of life in the woods and mountains, between ambushes, pawns, mortal risks, fleeing from the dull madness of the twins, until the surprising ending.

Mauro Corona, very inspired, gives us an overwhelming novel, full of twists and turns, and animated by characters as realistic as archetypal. Through Osvaldo's escape, Corona recounts the passing of the seasons, builds a novel of colors (the white of the snow, the red of autumn, the yellow of summer) and reflects on the saving power of nature: Osvaldo, even if on the run, even if hunted, even if hungry, will be happy in the middle of his woods.
