THE BOOK: BALKAN. THE LAST EUROPEAN WAR (ed.  Biblioteca dell'Immagine)

"Balkans" is a book that travels on the thread of memories of the author, who for ten years has followed the conflicts of the former Yugoslavia as a television correspondent. There is the amazement of a European war, under the house, and the attempt to transform the news, destined to last a few hours, into stories capable of explaining a war better than many geopolitical analyzes. At the heart of the book, the narration of the siege, with daily death, survival strategies, gardens transformed into cemeteries, the psychiatric hospital as the only inevitably multi-ethnic place in Bosnia. Thirty years later it is inevitable to ask what so much pain has served...

Toni Capuozzo

Journalist and writer, after attending Sociology in Trento he collaborated with Lotta Continua. He was a war correspondent of the Mediaset group, following the conflicts in the former Yugoslavia, Somalia, the Middle East and Afghanistan. He led the Terra! program. Among his books: Le guerre spiegate ai ragazzi (Mondadori, 2012) and Il segreto dei marò (Mursia, 2015).

THE BOOK: LUCA ATTANASIO. HISTORY OF AN AMBASSADOR OF PEACE (Ed. Piemme)

Luca attanasio storia di un ambasciatore di pace

"Being an ambassador is a bit like a mission. When you are a representative of the institutions you have the moral duty to set an example.» - Luca Attanasio - On February 22, 2021, in an armed attack on the convoy of the UN World Food Programme that took place a few kilometers from Goma, congo, Luca Attanasio died, together with the driver and the carabiniere who was traveling with him. He arrived in Kinshasa in 2017 as head of mission and after two years was appointed ambassador. The rain of messages from all over the world after the news of the ambush made us discover, little by little, the singularity and greatness of a diplomat who had made his work a mission of peace. With a degree in economics and a rapid career at the Farnesina, Luca Attanasio had revealed, first in Morocco and Nigeria and then in Congo, a strong and secure institutional presence. But anyone who came into contact with him was struck by the simplicity and humanity with which he put himself at the service of anyone in need: cooperators, religious, Italian volunteers who had chosen to engage in Africa. In this book Fabio Marchese Ragona has reconstructed Luca's life through the voices of family, friends, colleagues who have collaborated with him in the realization of important projects. Their stories follow in the footsteps of the boy who grows up in the oratory but is not afraid to pursue big dreams, and then of the young Catholic who builds a family with Zakia, who is Muslim. They allow, above all, to know the modern, far-sighted and supportive way in which the young ambassador played his role, stripping off his jacket and tie to visit and help the most isolated communities of the countries in which he worked. A story of daily heroism that gives hope to those "naïve" who work to change the world.
