On Sunday, July 19, 2026, at 5:30 p.m., the central stage of Piazza Carli in Asiago will host a new appointment of Aperitif with the Author by Brazzale, with the participation of Loris Giuriatti, writer and environmental hiking guide, who will present his new novel "The silence of the Highlands" (ed. Rizzoli).
Set in the Veneto region in 1940, the novel tells the story of Ceo Gonda, a farmer everyone calls "the American". Returning to his homeland for years after a past lived overseas, the man leads a reserved life, marked by the scars of war and a secret that he jealously guards. When Marshal Zancanaro shows up at his door with a letter from America - a letter that should never have resurfaced - CEO finds himself forced to come to terms with a past he had tried to forget and with truths that have remained buried for too long.
Through a continuous interweaving of present and memory, the reader is accompanied in the Venetian countryside of the early twentieth century, between poverty and sacrifices, in the trenches of the Great War on the Pasubio and then in the America of the years of prohibition, where the protagonist discovers a world full of opportunities but also of dangers.
In the close confrontation between the peasant and the marshal, determined to shed light on the story, a story of misery and pride, brotherhood and betrayal, honor and memory takes shape.
With his evocative style deeply linked to the places of the Veneto mountains, Giuriatti builds a narrative that combines great history with the stories of ordinary men, giving voice to a generation marked by war, emigration and the desire for redemption.
The meeting will represent a special opportunity to dialogue with the author and deepen a story that, starting from the Veneto mountains, crosses oceans, eras and generations, always keeping the deep bond with one's roots at the center.
Admission to the event is free, subject to availability.
In case of bad weather, the meeting will take place at the Council Chamber of the Municipality of Asiago.
