THE RELIC OF CONSTANTINOPLE

1565, Venice. The sun touches even the cemetery of San Zaccaria, when old John you haul in the tomb of the cleric, his former tutor Gregorio Eparch just resurrected by pissegamorti three Duchies. Doesn't want to steal the coffin of rotten wood or bones covered with Lint and mold. He's looking for a pamphlet. A journal "wrapped piece of oilcloth, sealed with a black ribbon, which he himself, fifty years before, has hidden under the bottom of the master, having vowed never to browse it or mention it to anyone. The pledge, however, can now be broken, because the annotations contained in that enclosure are the only clue which could lead to some very precious Christian relics have been lost. The diary opens in 1452, when Gregory – "the beard and black» and «deaf» physique more oarsman who – arrives in Adrianople together with his business partner, the Jewish-Venetian Malachi Bassan. The city, torn in Venice by the Ottoman Turks a century earlier, gruesome spectacle in the eyes of two young merchants. Twenty-eight sailors a galley from mercado of the Serenissima, accused of having disobeyed orders coming from the fortress of Boghaz-kesen, built by Mehmed II to control traffic on the Bosphorus, have been tortured, killed and left at the mercy of dogs in public roads. The intent of the young Sultan, a boy of nineteen thin and pale, is clear: to provide a show of force before besiege the city that, for Christians, is the mother and driving around the world, the handmaid of the Father: Constantinople, the Ark of Holiness, which houses the largest number of Christian relics. While a small army of Greek and Genoese, Venetians try to fend off the onslaught of Turks, Gregory has an idea: retrieve all "fragments of Paradise» belonged to the Saints and scattered in the churches, in the basement and into the great Imperial Palace in Constantinople, to save in this way Christianity. Tempting even for Malachi Bassan, in whose mind is the thought that, ill be going, those precious relics can still be sold. So between ambushes, escapes and riddles, the two young merchants are about the company ... With a vast documentation able to faithfully reproduce the architecture of Constantinople besieged by the Ottomans and military strategies, languages, religions and customs of the time, Paolo Malaguti writes an adventure novel from the unstoppable narrative tension. And we deliver two memorable protagonists, sons of the fifteenth century: the wise and obsequious cleric Gregory and the unpredictable Jew Malachi.
