META: Calà del sasso – Asiago Plateau and the Seven Municipalities (VI)Who has ever experienced the thrill of walking in the dark with only the dim light of the lanterns? The route begins at a typical mountain village (Sasso di Asiago) that we leave behind to descend along a path that crosses forests of beech and hornbeam, a small scree and leads us towards climb we will face the 4444 stone steps,already traveled who knows how many times by goods, people and animals ... a unique HISTORICAL HERITAGE!
"Long as purgatory, dark as the thunderstorm, the staircase that takes you to the great old man of the mountain, up there on the Asiago Plateau.  Four thousand four hundred and forty-four steps, steep from beasts, tiring already to name them. They start from Val Brenta, under grim peaks, at the point where the valley – for those who come from Bassano – seems to split in two, at the height of a village called Valstagna, with its wall of old houses flush with the embankment. The erta takes the left split and burns in a flash 810 meters in altitude. It's called "Calà del Sasso", and it's one of the most fantastic works in the Alps." Paul Rumiz

DIFFICULTY: we assign a difficulty 4 on a scale from 1 (very easy) to 5 (challenging)
The route is a ring and does not present particular technical difficulties, but requires a minimum of physical preparation and familiarity with excursions in a mountain environment. The descent will develop between a few short stretches of paved road, dirt roads and mountain paths, while you will climb along the ancient staircase of the Calà del Sasso. The difference in height uphill is less than 650 m, there is only one short exposed stretch.
TO TAKE WITH YOU: necessary mountain boots, layered clothing suitable for the mountain climate, waterproof jacket, water for the duration of the excursion (at least 1.5 liters), possibly a small snack such as dried fruit.
