Campogallina Guided Excursion, City in the Clouds with GUIDE ALTOPIANO - Mountain Professionals
Even today, after a hundred years you can see the well-preserved remains of the extraordinary logistics complex, strategic point of the 6th Austro-Hungarian Infantry Division, built at almost 2000 meters.
A real "citadel" built at the end of the Strafexpedition in June 1916, equipped with all the services: aqueduct and storage tanks, cinema, church, dozens of shelters in shacks and warehouses.
Also present is the important field hospital 1303 and the cemetery. Extraordinary is the network (today partly covered by the Path of Peace) that connected the area with the first lines, especially those on the Ortigara; 13 from the Vezzena Plain.
In addition to the imposing monument that towers over the area and dedicated "To the Heroes",the remains of the Division Command are still evident, with the monument reminiscent of its Commander, FelMarshal A. E. Von Mecenseffy, who fell on October 6, 1917 on the slopes of the Horn Campo Verde, at the saddle that today bears his name. At 13:45 from the Observatory near Cima Caldiera, codenamed "ELSA G." was given the order to fire an artillery shot on the only kilometer and a half of the Karl-Strasse discovered and in view of the Italian observers. The deadly blast started from the Italian lines near the artillery positions of the Campanella/Caldiera sector. One of the shrapnel of the blast hits the Commander of the 6th Austro-Hungarian Division who died shortly after.
Today throughout the area, immersed in a unique naturalistic context, it seems to take a step back in history.
