BOOK "THE MONSTERS AND HOW TO DEFEAT THEM'"
Why are we dissatisfied with politics? Where does the vacuum of trust that has driven citizens away from the institutions come from? Which Europe are we so wary of? At the height of the worst crisis since the post-war period, the Italian economy is in danger of stopping. So why do we waste time fighting an empty, postponed ideological clash? According to Carlo Calenda, in recent decades Italians have become accustomed to a way of looking at the politics that fascinates them and then petrifies them, as if they were subjected to the gaze of Medusa, unable to cut off the head of the Gorgon that embodies their vices. It's politics that needs new overbearing and muscular heroes. And then there is the deep impatience with betrayed expectations: a brute and blind feeling, capable of the ferocity of the Minotaur. On the other hand, Italy is the country of great beauty: the ruling class and the media are cynical and nihilistic like Narciso. In addition to your own mirrored image, everything else is ugly and dirty. And this attitude has pushed the country into the quagmire of resignation. The rift between the state and the citizens is the same as that separates progress from society: if progress advances too quickly with respect to society's ability to understand and direct it, citizens feel exhausted by their destiny. Fear, closure and aggression are inevitable reactions. To build a path of change, trust is needed.
Calenda for the first time writes a political book dedicated to Italy and the chimeras that we must win. We can no longer afford to ignore them, because we live in difficult and unpredictable times. The West is fragile and we are very fragile. The bad news is that the monsters agree with someone. The good news is that you can fight. Italy is stronger than those who want it weak, and our monsters can be defeated.
